The Architectural Review Board (ARB) shall review the site, proposed structures, architectural plans, parking, utilization of landscaping and open space, walkways, and site layout plans for compliance with design guidelines described in the Village of Sussex Downtown Design and Development Plan, Village of Sussex's Design Standards, and the STH 164 Corridor Plan.

This shall occur for proposed development projects within Business Districts B-1, B-2, B-3 and B-4; Business Office Parks BP-1and OP-1 and Residential SF-RD-3 Single Family Attached Residence and RM-1 Multi Family Residential. The Architectural Review Board shall Document its review proceedings, and make appropriate recommendations regarding such reviewed projects for consideration by the Plan Commission.

Members

The Architectural Review Board consists of one Village Trustee, two Plan Commissioners and two Sussex Citizens. Citizen members serve three-year staggered terms. Meetings

Meetings are held the 1st Wednesday of the month at 4 p.m. at the Civic Center (N64W23760 Main Street).

Statutory Authority

The ARB was founded in 2003 and its powers come from the Village Board under section 1.07 and
17.1100 of the Sussex Municipal Code. The ARB’s powers are derived from the Plan Commission, but it is responsible
to exercise objective judgement on many matters of design. The ARB’s actions include both legislative and judicial procedures.

The ARB works with many plans and standards including the Comprehensive Plan, Land Use Plan, Zoning Map, Ordinance Chapters 12, 13, 14, 15, 17, and 18, Design Standards, Area plans: Downtown Development and Design Plan, STH 164 Plan, Trails and Sidewalks Plan, and the Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan.
