The Village of Sussex, WI, located 19 miles northwest of Milwaukee, is accepting applications for full-time Firefighter/EMT and Firefighter/Paramedic positions. The Sussex Fire Department is a multi-role provider of all-hazard emergency protective services to an area of 7.24 square miles and a population of approximately 12,000. Emergency service personnel are cross-trained in fire, rescue, and medical emergencies. The department is responsible for emergency and non-emergency ambulance transport at the paramedic level, fire suppression services, motor vehicle collision response, and fire inspection and prevention activities within the Village of Sussex.
Sussex Fire Department responds to approximately 1,150 emergency calls annually and participates in Mutal Aid Box Alarm (MABAS) Division 106. Shift
At the Sussex Fire Department, we understand the importance of work-life balance. Our firefighters work a unique 48/96 shift schedule, consisting of two consecutive 24-hour shifts on duty and four days off. Our department is organized into three shifts (Red, Blue, and Green), and firefighters report for duty at 0600 hours.
Pay and Benefits
The Village also offers a competitive insurance package (health, dental, and vision), paid vacation and sick time, clothing allowance, bi-annual Village contribution to a Health Savings Account, and participation in the retirement program through the Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS). The salary range for Firefighters and paramedics is $56,656.00 to $81,574.00, working 2,737 hours annually.
Minimum Qualifications
- Valid Driver’s License with a good driving record
- Firefighter 1 Certification
- Hazardous Materials Operations Certificate
- Current Paramedic license
- Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
- Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
- National Incident Management System (NIMS) Incident Command System (ICS) 100, 200, 700, and 800 Certifications
Preferred certifications include Driver/Operator Pumper Certification (required within 12 months of employment), Driver/Operator Aerial Certification, Firefighter 2 Certification, Fire Inspector I Certification, and Emergency Services Instructor 1 Certification.
The Village accepts WTCS Board, IFSAC Accredited, or Pro Board Accredited.
