The valuation and assessment of property is the responsibility of the assessor's office. The Village of Sussex subcontracts with a private firm to perform the statutory duties of appraising all newly-constructed buildings and major remodeling of real property, the re-appraisal of land values where a property has been divided or where significant changes in value are indicated, to review and follow up on personal property statements by April 1 of each year, and to enter real estate and personal property assessments into the assessment roll for delivery to the Village Clerk for the annual Board of Review meeting.

Revaluation Notice

A revaluation of property assessments in the Village of Sussex shall occur each year. Revaluation notices are sent to property owners in March or April.

Please also notice that the Assessor has certain statutory authority to enter land as described in 943.13 and 943.15, Wisconsin Statutes. The ability to enter land is subject to several qualifications and limitations, as described within the foregoing statutes. Copies of the applicable statutes can be obtained at public depositories throughout the State of Wisconsin and from the State of Wisconsin Legislative Reference Bureau or a copy may be obtained from the municipal clerk upon payment of applicable copying charges.
