Cart Options
Badgerland Disposal provides two 96-gallon carts─one for trash and one for recycling─to each resident served by the trash contract (one- to four-family residences). If your cart is broken, contact Badgerland Disposal at (608) 580-0580. Residents may also call this same number to request smaller (65-gallon or 35-gallon) carts for trash and recycling
Bulk Item Collection
Badgerland Disposal will collect bulk items by appointment one week per month. Each household is allowed one collection per month of up to 10 bulk items at no cost. These item(s) must be manageable by one person and must be scheduled 48 hours in advance via email or phone call to allow proper equipment for pick up. This service includes items such as tables, lamps, tires (maximum two per month and six per year per household), furniture, appliances, mattresses, etc. No waste oil, liquids, batteries, or e-waste. Badgerland will collect additional items over 10 for a fee. Place bulk item(s) next to your container on bulk pick up day so they are visible for the driver.
To schedule a bulk item pickup, email BLTownservice@LRSrecycles.com, or call (608) 580-0580.
Collection Program Guidelines
- Containers should be placed 3 feet apart and 3 feet from any obstruction─walking between containers is a good rule of thumb─or place one container on the left side of the driveway and the other container on the right.
- Containers should also be out of the road, especially during leaf collection and snow plowing season.
- Trash and recycling must be curbside by 7 a.m. on your designated collection day.
- All waste/recycling materials must be INSIDE of the carts. Waste outside of the carts will not be taken.
- When holidays fall on a weekday, collection will be delayed one day. The collection calendar is available above.
Waste (Trash, Garbage, Refuse)
Trash carts are serviced weekly based on the schedule for your address (see above). Solid waste is what most of us think of as “trash,” “refuse,” or “garbage” that is produced at home, work or leisure. This category does NOT include any of the recyclable items listed below, any household hazardous waste, liquid latex paint, yard waste, appliances, or electronics.
Single-Stream Recycling
Your recycling cart will be serviced weekly based on the schedule for your address (see above). You can put all of your recyclables into the cart together. You do not have to separate paper from cans, glass and plastic. The following items should be placed in your recycling cart for proper processing:
- Aluminum containers, glass containers, steel containers (tin/aluminum cans)
- Bi-metal containers (i.e. containers made from a combination of steel and aluminum)
- Corrugated cardboard (all corrugated cardboard cut into pieces no larger than 3’x3’)
- Magazines and other materials printed on similar paper
- Newspaper and other materials printed on newsprint
- Mixed paper
- Plastic containers #1−#7 (milk jugs, laundry detergent bottles, soda and water bottles, etc.)
Payment
Residents are charged for garbage and recycling service on an annual basis on their property tax bill.

Any items left at the curb without a scheduled collection date will not be collected.
Starting in mid-October each year, Public Works Crews collect leaves from Village streets. Property owners should rake leaves into the street for pick-up. The piles should be spread out along the length of the property, rather than placed in one large pile, and should not be placed so far into the street that they interfere with two-way traffic. Care should be taken not to block storm drains to help prevent street flooding. Leaf collection continues until the leaves stop falling.
Accepted Materials: Please only pile leaves at the curb for collection. Grass, plants, branches, sticks, pumpkins and other similar organic materials are not accepted as part of this curbside program. These items clog our leaf vacuuming system and cause delays in service delivery. Please help keep our crews moving efficiently throughout the Village by only putting leaves at the curb for collection.
Leaf Collection Information & Updates
Homeowners wishing to dispose of leaves prior to the start of the annual leaf collection can take them to the Yard Waste Collection Site at the Woodland Nature Preserve (N72W22924 Good Hope Road). A Yard Waste Pass or Punch Card is required.
The Village collects brush each fall, typically in late September. The starting date is announced each year on the homepage, social media, and in the Courier.
2024 Brush Collection is scheduled to begin September 23. The crews will make one pass through the Village collecting brush. Residents must have their brush ready for collection by 7 a.m. on the first day of collection to ensure pick up.
Brush is defined as twigs and branches from trees and bushes. Branches must be no more than 8 inches in diameter. Place piles close to the street with the cut ends towards the curb. Leaves and grass clippings are not collected as part of brush collection.
Homeowners wishing to dispose of brush at other times of the year or that miss the annual collection can take the brush to the Yard Waste Collection Site at the Woodland Nature Preserve (N72W22924 Good Hope Road). A Yard Waste Pass or Punch Card is required.
The Village offers curbside Christmas tree collection during the month of January. Staff will make several passes through the Village to collect Christmas trees. Please remove all decorations from the tree and place it at the curb. Do not place the tree in a plastic bag.
Certain electronics are banned from incinerators and landfills in Wisconsin. Manufacturers and retailers are required to take back electronics for recycling under E-Cycle Wisconsin. Do not put these items at the curb with your weekly garbage.

Improperly disposing of medical sharps poses a public health risk along with the potential to injure haulers and recycling facility workers. To reduce public health risks, Wisconsin rules require all citizens to manage sharps safely. It is illegal to put sharps in the trash or with recyclables. There are several options for safe disposal:
- Contact your pharmacy, doctor, clinic or local hospital; many health care facilities accept sharps but are not legally required to register and therefore may not appear on the list of registered sharps collection stations.
- Take sharps to a registered collection station. Find a site in Waukesha County.
- Use a "mail-back" sharps program, which can be found by searching the internet. The company should provide containers and packaging which meet US postal regulations.
For more information, disposal publications and other locations for safe disposal of medical sharps in Wisconsin visit the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources website.
